PEKANBARUPOS.COM (PPC),PEKANBARU – Tesso Nilo National Park Center in Riau Province is developing eco-tourism in order to protect the conservation area from logging and encroachment.
“We are now formulating the eco-tourism grand design,” Head of the Center, Supartono, told Antara here on Tuesday.
He stated that the center has been cooperating with experts from Gadjah Mada University and some travel agents in Riau Province.
Supartono explained that Tesso Nilo national park, with domesticated elephants and other wildlife, tropical forests, and rivers, can be transformed into a tourism destination.
“There are already two homestays that can be used by visitors,” he said, adding that the development of nature tourism in Tesso Nilo will involve the local people too.
Supartono added that out of the 81 thousand hectares, Tesso Nilo s area is only 23 thousand hectares. Therefore, the natural tourism development is expected to maintain the remaining conservation area. (adv)
